Kirándulások a környéken - Excursions in the area
Cairns környékén sok minden látnivaló van. Két Világörökség része látványosság is van, az egyik természetesen a Nagy Korallzátony, a másik az Nedves Trópusi Esőerdő. Az erdőkben itt sok olyan növényt találhatunk, amik zavartalanul fejlődhettek az elmúlt évmilliók során, különleges az élővilág. Itt a kengurú-wallaby, cassowary-nagytestű madár kerülhet elénk szinte bármikor.
Kacskaringós utakon megyünk fel a hegyre, nincsenek sokan az utakon, de meglepően sok a teherautó.
Vízesések, kilátó pontok, eukaliptusz fák szakítják meg a sűrűn növő növényzetet. Aztán egyszer csak furcsa halmokra leszünk figyelmesek. Mintha egy hatalmas állat állna a mezőn. De van belőle kicsi, csúcsos, masszív. Termeszvárak!
Itt a környéken főképp cukornádat termesztenek, de érdekes látványt nyújt a mangóültetvény is, ahol egy kis borászat is működik! Semmi szőlő, csak mangó, de mégis nagyon hasonló az élmény.
Amikor egésznap csak ömlött az eső (éves szinten 2000mm eső esik, ebből 108mm hullt aznap), akkor se estünk kétségbe, hanem elmentünk Cairnsbe az Akváriumba. Nagyon tetszett. Ami más volt az eddigiekhez képest, hogy volt benne tér, halk zene szólt, az előadások pont akkor kezdődtek, mikor egyik helyszínről a másikra értünk, de ami a legjobb volt, hogy egy kicsit én is megtapasztalhattam Phill világát, a tengeri mélység varázsát.
Ami viszont egyszerűen megbabonázott, hogy a kígyók etetését láthattuk, soha nem láttam még egy kígyót egy egész csirkével megbírkózni!
There is plenty to visit around Cairns. Two World Heritage Sites you can find here, the first of course the Great Barrier Reef, the other is the Wet Tropical Rainforest. In the forests you can find many plants which have remained undisturbed for millions of years and a very special fauna as well. Here wallabies and cassowaries can run across the roads at any time.
We are driving on the rolling hills on windy roads, there are not many cars, but surprisingly lots of trucks we see.
Waterfalls, lookouts, eucalyptus trees breaks the dense growing forest. Once we see some strange mounds. It looks like a huge animal on the field from a distance. But there are small, cone shaped, massive ones. Termites mounds!
Here in the area the most common is the sugarcane plantation, but it is interesting to see the mango fields as well, one of them has a small winery as well. No grape, just mango, but it gives the same experience.
When it was raining the whole day (yearly 2000mm rain is falling, we got 108mm on that day), we didn't worry to much and we went to the Cairns Aquarium. I loved it. What different was to the previous ones, that we had space, there was a gentle music in the background, the presentations were just timed perfectly, started exactly when we reached that part of the Aquarium, but the best thing was that I could have experienced Phill's world, the magical world of the deepness.
There was one thing which made me enchanted, that we saw the feeding of the snakes. I have never seen before a snake eating a whole chicken.
