Tudás szemben a Bölcsességgel - Knowledge vs Wisdom
1. Ausztrália (Oz, Aussie) a rövidítések országa. Mindennek van rövid verziója, ebben eléggé hasonlít a magyar nyelvhez. De akkor vajon Sydneynek mi a rövidítése? Az a monda járja, hogy a francia S(ain)t Denis-ről kapta a város az immár rövid nevét.
2. Cook kapitány, mikor a 18 század végén partot ért, úgy vélte igen, ez a hely tökéletes lesz városalapításra. Választása a Botany-öbölre esett, mert a botanikus jóbarátja, Joseph Banks, teljes transzba esett az itt található növényvilágtól. A problémát csak az okozta, hogy se édesvíz, se kikötésre alkalmas mélyvíz nem volt. Így amikor Phillip kapitány megérkezett, hogy a Cook által megjelölt helyen a várost megalapítsák, felkiáltott! Vajon mit szívtak ezek! Így kicsit arrébb hajózott és megtalálta a mai Sydney helyét.
3. 24 óra elteltével a franciák egy flottája is befutott, akikkel békés elbeszélgetés után arra jutottak, hogy a franciák továbbmennek.
4. A 19. század elején közel 165.000 elítéltet szállítottak Ausztráliába. Ezek csupán 2%-ka volt veszélyes bűnöző, a többség könnyű vétségek miatt (pl. 5 zsebkendő vagy 2 kismalac ellopása, tiltott halászat) került száműzetésbe. Ma egész előkelő azt mondani, egy elítélt leszármazottja vagyok! Ez a lakosság 22%-ra érvényes.
5. A Kínai Új év, február 16-án kezdődött. A kutya évébe léptünk. Ázsián kívül Sydneyben a legnagyobb az ünneplés ennek alkalmából.
6. A térkép az útunk mentén egy nagy tavat jelzett, ebből mi csak egy nagy zöld rétet vettünk észre. Száraz az időjárás...
7. Amit mi szobanövényként ismerünk, az nem más, mint a trópusi erdők növényzete.

9. Hivatalosan az a különbség gyümölcs és zöldség között, hogy a gyümölcs termése magában tartja a magot. Így gyümölcsnek számít a paradicsom, paprika, padlizsán, uborka, cukkíni, tök, avokádó és az olívabogyó is.
10. És mi a különbség tudás és bölcsesség között? Tudás, hogy a paradicsom gyümölcs. Bölcsesség, hogy nem teszed gyümölcssalátába.

They say that the city originates its name from the French S(ain)t Denis, and this is already the short version.
2. At the end of the 18th century when Captain Cook reached the shores, he said yes, this will be a good place to establish a city. He chose the Botany Bay as his good Botanist friend Joseph Banks was absolutely amazed here from the flora he found. The only problem was that there was no fresh water and anchorage. When few years after Captain Phillip arrived to the place suggested by Cook he was shocked. What the Earth Cook was smoked in?! So he got back to the boat and a few miles away he found the bays, where you can find Sydney today. He was right on the money!
3. 24 hours later a French flotilla arrived to the same bay. After a peaceful conversation, the French flotilla went further.
4. At the beginning of the 19th century 165.000 convict was deported to Australia. Only 2% were guilty in serious crimes, the rest was convicted because of minor offences (e.g. stolen 5 handkerchief or 2 pigs, stealing fresh from a river). Today it sounds very posh to say I am descendent of a convict. 22% of living Australians had a convict ancestor.
5. The Chinese New Year started 16 February and we stepped in to the Year of the Dog. Outside Asia the biggest celebration is in Sydney.
6. The map showed a big lake next to the road on our way to Canberra, which was only a huge green grass field. The weather is dry...
7. What we know as a houseplant is the vegetation of the tropical forests.
8. We have found the Southern Cross!
9. Officially the difference between fruit and vegetables is, that the product of the fruit is keeping the seeds inside. If you use this rule the followings are fruits: tomato, pepper, aubergine, cucumber, courgette, pumpkin, avocado and olives.
10. And what is the difference between knowledge and wisdom? Knowledge is knowing that the tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
