Az olimpiai láng - The Olympic Flames
1956-ban került megrendezésre az első Olimpia a déli féltekén, Ausztráliában, Melbourne-ben. A láng azonban ugyanúgy Görögországból indult. Emlékszem több évvel ezelőtt gondolkodtam a dolgon, hogyan vitték a lángot a tengeren át? A fejemben az a kép alakult ki, biztos hajón és valaki folyton futott vele! De nem! Repülővel érkezett Athénból Cairnsbe, hogy elkezdődjön a leghosszabb futás a modernkori olimpiák történelmében. 4600 km-t tett meg a láng 13 éjjel és 14 nappalon keresztül. Minden futó legalább egy mérföldet futott vele, hét percen belül teljesítve azt.
Aztán a láng megérkezett Melbournebe és magyar csapat is ott volt. Micheal mesélte, emlékszik a vízilabda döntőre Magyarország és Szovjetunió között, hogy a meccs végén piros volt a víz... de mi nyertünk!
Viszont, amit nem tudtam, hogy ebben az évben Magyarország az éremtábla negyedik helyén végzett közvetlenül Szovjetunió, USA és Ausztrália mögött! Egyszerűen dagad a keblem a büszkeségtől!
2000-ben Sydney felé a láng meg a víz alatt is utazott a Nagy Korallzátonynál!
In 1956 the Olympic Games was organised for first time on the Southern Hemisphere in Australia, in Melbourne. The flame started its trip from Greece as usual. I remember, I was thinking about this already a several years ago, how it was possible to take the flame through the oceans. In my imaginations, I was sure it was on a big boat and somebody was running with it continuously. But not! It arrived from Athens to Cairns by plane to start the longest run in the history of the modern olympics. It was travelling 4600 km non-stop over 13 nights and 14 days. Each runner took it over a mile, finishing it within 7 minutes.
Then the flame arrived to Melbourne and the Hungarian team was there as well. Michael told us, he remembered that the final of the waterpolo was between the Soviet Union and Hungary, and at the end of the game the water in the pool was red... but we won!

What I didn't know that in this year Hungary finished on the 4th place on the medal table right after the Soviet Union, the US and Australia. I am so proud!
In 2000 the flame was travelling to Sydney even under the water at the Great Barrier Reef.
