Félkörök - Semicircles
Ahogy a szigeten járunk-kelünk, gyakran látunk kőből épített félköröket vagy ahogy a helyiek hívják "zocos"-t. Most még hiába van itt jó idő, azért az látszik, hogy a természet még pihen, üresek a félkörök. Ezeket speciálisan Lanzarote-n készítik a szőlőtermesztéshez kapcsolódóan. Ez a kőfal védi a tőkét az erős széltől.
Mikor az emberek visszatértek a szigetre a vulkánok lecsillapodása után, szomorúan látták, hogy az addig bőven termő terület a múlté. De nem adták fel! Majd egy méterre leástak a vulkanikus hamu alá és a kialakított félkörökben elhelyezték a szőlőtőkét, aminek a gyökerei így elérték a földet. Az apró kavicsos törmelék megtartja a nedvességet így segítve a növény fejlődését. Ma 1500-an élnek szőlőtermesztésből, 2 millió liter bort termelve évente ezzel a módszerrel, ami kizárólag kézi megmunkálást tesz lehetővé az ültetéstől a szüretig.
Nem csoda, hogy itt a földműveseket olyan nagy tisztelet övezi, mert ezen a tájon is képesek termelni.
As you are going around the island, you can see many places stone built semicircles or how the locals call them "zocos". Although there is a good weather in February, the nature is still sleeping, the semicircles are empty. These are specially made in Lanzarote for protecting the vine from the strong wind.
When the people returned to the island after the eruptions stopped, they had to see that the previously fertile land is for the past. But they did not give it up! They dig a meter down into the volcanic ash and placed carefully the vines in the semicircles, which roots in this way reached the fertile ground. The granules of the volcanic rock keep the moisture, which helps the developing of the plant. Today 1500 people lives from wine production, making 2 million liter wine annually with this method, where everything has to be done by hand.
The farmers are almost worshiped for managing to farm the land because if you can do it with these conditions, it is like a bit of miracle.
